Readers Advance™ has been written to strengthen students' reading skills, including word attack skills, vocabulary, and comprehension, while developing a knowledge base in science. The reading program is written so that it can be taught by classroom teachers, teachers in Title I, or special education teachers. Recommendations from the National Reading Panel are emphasized and show that the most effective reading instruction is through a combination of methods. The state reading standards have been used as a guide when developing reading activities. Readers Advance™ Teacher's Guide for Level 6 consists of three sets of reading activities for each of the five leveled student books listed above: (1) a set of Teacher Directed Activities, (2) a set of Teacher Guided/Coaching Reading activites, and (3) a set of Independent Student Reading Activites/Pre-, Post-Assessment Activities. Each set of reading activities identifies the high-utility sight words and develops students' reading skills in phonemic awareness, phonics, structural analysis, prefixes and suffixes, and comprehension. Reading skills are presented in a systematic manner. Each set of reading activities reinforces the skills taught in the other two sets. Reading skills are reinforced from book to book to insure that students get the needed repetitions to become fluent readers. Science and math activities written to meet the National Science Standards recommendations are also included for each student book. A CD-ROM with supplemental activities and assessments is included with the Teacher's Guide. Level 6 Teacher's Guide contains 256 pages and comes with a CD-ROM. .
